Purpose Statement
The
goal of Zion Lutheran School is to help students develop a relationship with
Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
At the elementary and middle grades, we realize positive socialization,
Christian empathy for one another, and classroom relationships support much of
a student’s school success. In
order to prepare students for a rewarding Christian relationship, teachers
implement self-help strategies that provide structure, teach organizational
skills, and encourage successful performance.
Spiritual Life
Religion: Through the curriculum, Voyages,
emphasis during the school year is the life of Jesus and the gospel of
Matthew. Additional subjects will
include an overview of the Bible, church history and Martin Luther. Daily devotions, along with weekly
memory work, all help the children grow spiritually.
Chapel: All students gather together each week
for a worship service that includes prayer, music, Christian mission
opportunities, and age appropriate talks.
Parents are welcome to join us each week for this special time.
Academic Life

writing, and spelling though English and Spelling Workout. Literature and independent reading are
also encouraged in a variety of genres and monitored through journaling.

Success continues to build on the fundamentals of math and offers tools for
Internet and classroom computer activities.
Science: An appreciation for the world God has
created is gained as the children study life, physical and earth science. We are currently adopting a new
curriculum. Activities and labs
take place weekly.

In order to better understand the world in which we live, students focus
on ancient world history and incorporate map and geography skills with high
level thinking skills. The text is

processing, research, educational games, and math problem solving through the
Prentice Hall Internet site. The
students enhance their skills at the computer in their classroom or in the lab
twice a week.
Physical
Education:
Physical Education is a class designed to provide aerobic exercise,
appreciation for physical fitness, and learned skills in individual and team
athletics. Students are required
to dress in designated PE attire twice a week for this class.
Music: In addition to learning to play the
hand chimes, the students share a basic vocabulary of the elements of music
that may inform a discussion, appreciation, and study of selected musical
works. The focus combines music
history with appreciation of illustrative works.
Band: Band is available as an
elective. Group and individual
instruction prepare students for concerts and retirement home presentations.
Art: The creative side of each child is
nurtured through art each week.
Projects are planned to coordinate with holidays and the
